Optical properties of pyrolytic carbon films versus graphite and graphene
Active photonic applications of layered carbon materials stirred up an intent interest to their optical properties. Nontriviality of these properties can be illustrated by recent (in 2008) measurement of the 97.7 % optical transmittance for the graphene layer. The value of this transmittance was found to be defined by fine-structure constant. Refractive and light absorption coefficients for the layered pyrolytic carbon films are discussed in the present report. In addition intentions in field of Raman measurements of layered carbon materials planned in frame of the DORA 5+ project, which was won by the reporter recently will be represented. This DORA5+ project entitled “Graphene and graphene oxide materials as a base for the surface enhanced spectroscopy“ is under realization by the reporter at the Laboratory of laser spectroscopy, Institute of Physics, University of Tartu during the January-March 2015.
