Morphological changes on diamond and DLC films during sliding wear
Diamond and diamond-like carbon are important engineering materials for tribological applications including tooling used in casting and machining processes, machines parts, AFM tips, MEMS, etc. A number of intrinsic and external factors influence on diamond and DLC films tribological properties.
Wear and frictional behavior of NCD films deposited on Si substrate shows clear dependence on the counterbody material. Deflection of thin NCD films deposited on a silicon wafer under relatively low load was found. Rippling on NCD and DLC surfaces was observed. Density and size of ripples depend substantially on load and test duration.
