LUMINESCENCE OF RARE EARTH DOPED ZIRCONIA
The presentation will summarize some previous research work completed on RE doped zirconia in ISSP UL. The luminescence properties were studied mainly, however also for sample characterization different other method as XRD, EDX, FTIR, SEM and TEM were applied.
The presentation will include the results of luminescence studies of different compositions of zirconia doped with RE ions like (Ce, Eu, Er, Pr and Tb). The studies were carried out for different zirconia polimorphs - cubic phase stabilised by the Y and Ca wereas for monoclinc phase stabilization the Nb was introduced. Nb dopant compensated the RE ion induced charge difference, thus reducing oxygen vacancy concentration impact on luminescence.
Besides the compensations also short overview of different zirconia nanocrystals preparation routes will be discussed. Mostly the nanocrystalic samples were studied, however results on macroscopic samples and single crystals will be included also.
The luminescence experiments were made using various excitation sources: x-ray, e-beam, YAG, ArF and optical parametric oscillator (OPO) lasers. The use of different excitation sources gives additional information about defects within surrounding of RE ions.
