Leaky Surface Plasmon Polaritons for birefrigent crystals
Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), simplest case of surface waves, have received a lot of attention because of their useful properties like tight spatial confinement, enhanced local electric field, high sensitivity to refractive index variation, etc. We theoretically study SPPs at the interface of metal and birefringent crystal, which usually are named to Dyakonov SPPs (DSPPs) because of similarity to Dyakonov waves. We show that at the special conditions the extraordinarily polarized component of DSPPs becomes leaky. General 4x4 transfer-matrix method is employed to study the reflection, transmission and electrical field properties of leaky DSPPs. Potential applications will be outlined.
