Water colloids of Nd3+ doped fluoride nanocrystals for bioimaging in the first biological window: results and plans
The development of nano-sized luminophores based on dielectric crystals doped with rare-earth ions is an urgent task. In addition to traditional functions as light sources and display materials, luminescent nanoparticles also attract attention as a new class of non-invasive medical probes, especially in the near IR spectral range in the biological window (optical transparency window of biological tissues).
However, in the nano-sized state, their luminescent properties often differ from those of bulk crystals in the direction of increasing luminescence quenching. Especially it concerns aqueous colloidal solutions of nanocrystals (NCs), which are most suitable for medical applications. Right now in the literature, you cannot find a reliable prescription what to do to get highly luminescent stable aqueous colloidal solutions of RE doped NCs especially in the near IR spectral range.
In the talk, based on key-note lecture at EURODIM 2018, we present such a prescription and its realization on practice. Real applications of the NCs water colloids developed are presented and scientific plans are given.
