The MAX IV synchrotron project in Lund; with some focus on high-resolution RIXS
Currently a new synchrotron radiation source, the MAX IV facility, is under construction in Lund, Sweden. When becoming operational for users June
21,2016 the MAX IV facility will be the lowest emittance synchrotron light source in the world. The low emittance gives outstanding performance.
Regarding brightness and coherence of the synchrotron light thereby enabling entirely new science. An Estonian-Finnish consortium led by Tartu University will build the first internationally contributed beamline at the new facility.
I will describe the current scope and status of the project and will illustrate the huge potential of the new source for science using ultra-high resolution resonant inelastic X-ray scattering RIXS as an example.
